ABOUT

American Wine Writer was born from the desire to present an educational and entertaining perspective on the world of alcoholic beverages.

Benjamin Spencer is the founding editor of AmericanWineWriter.com and the author of ‘The New Wines of Mount Etna,’ forthcoming from Gemelli Press (2019).

After receiving a degree in Writing from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University, I pursued an apprenticeship in the California wine business. Over the following decade, I worked as a sommelier, journalist, and as a winemaker for some of California and Sicily’s artisan and internationally traded brands.

I studied Viticulture, Enology, and Wine Theory with the University of California at Davis, the Court of Master Sommeliers, and I hold a Diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust.

In 2011, I founded AmericanWineWriter.com to catalog my wine studies, promote my consulting services, and create a platform for publishing regular articles, photos, recipes, and videos.
